Coot

The American Coot is a plump, chickenlike bird with a rounded head and a sloping bill. Their tiny tail, short wings, and large feet are visible on the rare occasions they take flight. Waterfowlers add coot decoys to decoy spreads to add confidence to other waterfowl. Decoy head is sized to fit a 12-13" decoy, about the size of a Herter's 63 size decoy.

A black-and-white seaduck common on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts in winter, the Surf Scoter has a boldly patterned head that is the basis for its colloquial name "skunk-headed coot."
